'Island Sunset',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, Port Renfrew, Botany Bay)

This piece is a culmination of the theme of several of
the larger canvases I have completed recently.
I must say it has been very satisfying to work through
this series. Time to move on to something else for a bit.
Gotta get back amongst the oaks!

'Spring Dance',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, Garry oak meadows, Garry Oak Ecosystems Recovery Team, spring

I painted this piece on what turned out to be a very cool
late afternoon a couple of weeks ago. The deal was to get
it done quickly so we allowed ourselves 45 minutes or less.
My main goal was to try and capture the light and colour
patterns that surrounded us at that time and not worry
to much about fine details. I'm pleased with the
results overall, course my desire for more fine details
nags at me a little. Once again the character of these
Garry oaks lead me to title the piece this way.
The Garry oak meadow that I painted in has the first
of the early wildflowers and naturalized invaders in bloom
already which is a bit early this year.
The incredible flush of the native Camas Lily
will not be to far off.
Oil on board 6 x 6.

'Chestnut-backed Chickadee",

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, Chickadee oil painting)

Familiar to almost everyone in North America, there are
many different sub-species of Chickadees. This variety
is common in the Pacific North-west.
Oil on wood panel 9 x 12.
Your thoughts and comments are very much appreciated.

'Harlequin'

Harlequin ducks are strictly sea ducks found inland only
during nesting season where they can be seen in close
proximity to fast moving turbulent mountain streams here
on the west coast. Both coasts of North America have
populations and are usually sited close to rocky shorelines.
They seem total at home in very rough water and go about
their business with breaking surf going right over them
as they dive for food among the rocks and kelp beds.
The drakes are one of North Americas
most strikingly coloured sea birds.

'Winter Surf',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, Port Renfrew, winter surfing)

Another studio piece from my Port Renfrew trip.
These two wet suit clad fun seekers were among
the twenty or so out catching waves
in the sparkling surf.
I love to paint light and this piece really
provided a wonderful outlet for that.

'Botany Bay',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, Botanical Beach, oil painting of west coast Vancouver Island)

This is the larger version of a plein air painting I did
a couple of weeks ago. I have been busy working on a
series of larger paintings featuring west coast
