'Mitchell's Lookout'

Pretty wet out on the painting grounds yesterday.
But I waited for a brief window between
the bands of showers...
with a nice sunny break at the end.
Here on the south Island, April's cloud show
has not disappointed, with daily
extravaganzas in the spring sky.
Oh to have the energy to paint and capture
everyone of them, throughout everyday.

'Sunrise On The Salish Sea'

Containing natures drama within the confines of
a particular size support and yet trying to allow
its raw beauty to some how be free is always a
challenge. Magically with a bit of paint
and some patient perseverance
we sometimes come close.
Alas it is after all but paint and canvas.
However artists do dream and
sometimes, even dreams can come true.
This is another one for my upcoming show
in March at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria,
 more info to follow.

'South Coast Light'

This painting was developed from a plein air piece I
painted last March. I must say that the grand scale
in this painting was very inspiring and I set my
imagination dial to "Playtime" and let it happen!

'Morning Winds - Enterprise Channel'

BC's south coast was battered by another gale from early
morning and through much of today. Some areas registering
wind gusts to 100kmh. Though the winds were not
anywhere near that speed where I painted this morning,
it was too windy to set up outside so I hunkered down,
once again, in the shelter of my vehicle...
Incredibly beautiful skies and sparkling water in a very
fast changing panorama, so make a decision and
paint fast boyo!

Passing Storm

This painting was worked up from a small one that I
painted several months ago. One of Victoria's
important light stations it sits about three miles to the
north of Victoria's inner harbour. Trial Island light has
been guarding the approach to both Oak Bay and
Victoria for many years and has been instrumental
to navigation and saving the lives of many mariners
in the often rough seas it surveys.
Oil on canvas 16 x 20.
Your comments are always a pleasure.
