Afternoon Sky

This cloud study was posted last year but I was never
completely happy with it, I thought it was too dark.
So I "went back in" awhile ago and did some lightening
and I'm more satisfied with the effort this time.
Oil on board 6 x 6.

Mount Doug Clouds

Several weeks ago I was able to photograph some
spectacular cloud formations from the top of Mount
Tolmie. These clouds where the type we seldom
see here in Victoria. They are the sort I have seen
painted of the skies in places such as New Mexico.
Huge towering formations rolling across the sky
changing rapidly as they past. When I got back to
the studio I was able to take more photo's of them
now filled with colours from the sun setting behind me.
From these photo's I hope to do a large series of
paintings, this being the first.

Oil on board 6 x 8.
Comments always appreciated!

December Afternoon-Plumper Bay

A warm sunny afternoon in December and the time to
get out and paint...how great is that. The temperature
hit 13C which is about 60F...niiiice!
The rapidly moving clouds presented quite a
challenge and by the time an hour had gone by large
looming dark clouds had moved in and
it was time to skedaddle!
This is another view of part of Esquimalt Harbour.
Oil on board 6 x 8.
Comments always appreciated.

Top of the Rock

Just finished this one from a photo taken while out
plein air painting on Friday.
I loved the drama of the two isolated trees
backdropped by the hudge clouds
rising up behind them.
Oil on canvas 8 x 6.

"Clouds are fascinating to paint because they are the only
element in a landscape that possesses free movement."
