'Saxe Point Morning'

An early start yesterday allowed for some
hopeful colour and subtle greys.
The next weather system off the Pacific
is arriving this afternoon.

At The Edge of Enchantment

I painted in this magical place yesterday
and as I worked, salmon were
making their way upstream to spawn.
By mid morning the sun began to
filter into the canyon lighting
up the moss covered trees, coloured leaves
and sparkling the stream.
It was easy to feel the spirit of
Emily Carr dancing among the
trees and along the banks
of the stream...

The first of two from an early September

One West Coast Evening

There are some very special places not far from here.
Scenes that burn into your memory so
that they become more than just
rock, sky and water.
Botany Bay is one such place,
for me...

Dancing on Highrock

'Dancing with some Fir sisters a couple of
evenings ago up on Highrock.
It's always exciting this time of year
because you never know who's going to show up.
This time three Sandhill Cranes flew low over us
and a group of Band-tailed Pigeons
flew out of the Firs just as the music started'

In a Garry Oak Meadow

As I stood painting this piece
I couldn't help but be awed by
these marvelous trees.
They have stood the test of time.
Encircled by development and
its accompanying pressures these towering
remnants of a very specialized ecosystem
still evoke the grandeur of nature.
This copse of Garry Oaks, perhaps more
than one hundred years old,
are an amazing testament to
 the resilience of nature.
I hope these wonderful grandmothers
of the meadow can
go at least one hundred more...

Of A Summer Evening

'Late of a summer evening
when from off the sea

a lively breeze
moves through the trees
Swallows and Martins soaring high
in the fast fading rays
of the summer sky
and the golden glow
of these halcyon days'
