'South Island Summer'

Well things have been quite hectic for the past
several weeks (in a good way) lots of art related
news to share with you.
One of those news items is tomorrows
*24th Annual Moss Street Paint-In*
Once again the largest art festival in western Canada
begins Saturday July 16th 11 am - 4:30pm
on Moss Street between Fort & Dallas.
You will find me set up and painting at 101 Moss
between May & Faithful on the lower end of Moss.
Hope you can drop by and say hello, will share a laugh!

The plein air piece above was done last Tuesday morning
after the cloud cover, grudgingly, broke up
and allowed the sun to warm me up!

'Moss Street Stroller'

I painted this piece while manning my site
last Saturday at the
Art Gallery of Greater Victoria's
'23rd Annual Moss St. Paint-In'
As usual the event is looked forward to by
art lovers and artist alike and is always
a huge success with as many as 35,000
spectators for the five and a half hour event!
This years event was no exception.
Across the street from my site I noticed a lovely
'Lavatera' in full bloom back lite in the morning
sun as I set up. Painting it later I added an imaginary
women strolling by, though, by then I could hardly
see the shrub for the crowds of onlookers.
Painting en plein air in a situation like that was to
say the very least, very challenging and
then I went and added a figure... jeeez!
During the show I was happily surprised to have
fellow 'daily painters .com' artist
David Roberts from Winnipeg drop by for a visit wow!

Thoughts and comments always appreciated!

I have included a few photo's of my site and the
fog rolling up the street toward us.
It made things quite cool for the next couple of hours

My site with my easel on the left!

More of my site.

The fog approaching the throng spectators!

Moss Street Daisies

I started this piece while manning my site at the
Moss Street Paint-In a few weeks ago. There
where drifts of summer daisies in the front yard
flower beds of the house behind my site.
I've included a couple of photo's below.
Victoria's Moss Street and area has some fine
old homes from the hey days of early 20th
century architecture as you can see in the photo's.
Although I do enjoy painting flowers I seldom do.
So it was a bit of a challenge coupled with
doing it in front of the crowds of fun seekers!
=;-))

I would also like to draw your attention to Chicago
artist Karen Phipps who's blog link I have
just added to my "artist blog roll".
She is an amazingly dedicated and adventurous
plein air painter!
