'Highrock Meadow'

Here on the south island another year of spring wild 

flowers is drawing to a close.

It was such a joy to get out painting amongst them

and get some photo references for 

more paintings.

Not sure what effect the lack of bees will have on

these precious spring friends.

'The tide turn begins, 

life in and around the sea quickens,

birds lift off from the rocks in a noisy snow storm,

swells rolling in from the open Pacific increase in size and intensity,

below fish feed and frenzies fill the sea in flashing silver,

birds funnel into the boiling shoals of bait,

the natural circle of life plays out in perfection,

as it has throughout time...'

'Evening Ferry in the Islands'

'Late on a September afternoon

 with updrafts of August like warmth.

 High on an island mountain cliff 

Turkey vultures and Ravens passing so close below

 you hear the rush of air through their wings.

Far below in the distance the ferries ply their trade, 

but up here on the edge of this glacial sculpture 

the silence tingles on your skin.

The scent of pine and fir warmed by summer like heat

 is thick in the air with Raven talk,

 breath deeply...'

'I would like to wish you a Happy Solstice with a hope that at this time, as the rhythms of the natural world align themselves to the return of the light, that we all take some time to reflect.

Many at this time are anxious to find an answer to questions of why, how and who's fault. As it has been said many times in song and verse the answer lies within us all, not in a book or a law or a particular belief but inside our individual human souls. We all share the blame and we all have the answers. As we welcome the light think of the things you as a human being would wish to leave behind and what it is that you would welcome into our new year ahead.  We all have the human qualities to love and hate. Watching the incredible force of these Pacific

swells being thrown skyward by these

coastal ramparts is a thrilling

experience.

The knowledge that there are many animals

and birds that call this ecosystem home

makes you aware just how tenuous  

 our hold is to mother earth.
