October View

Spent a wonderful couple of hours painting on the summit
of a local hill. It is very close to my studio and I can't
believe I haven't been there painting more often this year.
I plan to correct this oversight immediately.
So many places to paint so little time...

October Sky

Here in Victoria we are having a very colourful October.
My birthday month can often have rather volatile
weather to say the least, but this year it has been grand!
I hope to get out this week for some
plein air stuff while it lasts.

Afternoon Sky

Finally getting back at the easel...that virus was a doosey!
I'm also back at the clouds...what a wonderful subject
they are. I never seem to tire of them...hmmm
I think I feel a series coming on!

'The Warm Lands', **SOLD**

I've been a bit off my game as of late due to a couple
of things, been getting all the last things done for
my upcoming show (whoppee)! Took the last group of
paintings into the gallery yesterday and then it
was back on the couch as I try to fight off
an ugly cold gone wild.
This painting will be featured in my show.
It was developed from a small one I did a little while ago.

Oil on canvas 30 x 30.

October Pumpkins

We had a beautiful October day for painting
en plein air on Friday and many of the pumpkin
fields where still unharvested. Here in Canada
we celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend and it
was grand to be able to spend part of it in
such abundance of sunlight and colour.

September Afternoon

I took the reference photo for this painting on our last lake
swim late in September a couple of weeks ago.
It was glorious to dive in so late in the year and afterwards
luxuriate in the warm afternoon sun.
We had a fantastic September this year,
but oh they go by so fast...

Farm Fresh - Cowichan Station **SOLD**

As summer fades away this lonely farm stand still
has organic produce available to passers by. We spent
an afternoon in this area a week ago and got
some of the best cherry tomatoes ever from this stand!
The Big Leaf maple behind the stand was already large
when, in the 1880's, Cowichan Station was a thriving
community on the Esquimalt-Nanaimo Railroad.
By the early 1920's fires, depression and changed fortunes
left little to tell of the hotels, general stores and
many other businesses that once provided this still
vibrant farming area a town centre. The E&N still
stops here, though now it is mostly just a lovely spot
on the river, just off the beaten path to Duncan.
It is a very magical place who's history and spirits remain
hidden to most who pass through here.
Oil on board 8 x 10.

Gray Day-Oak Bay

A group of outsiders faced a formidable challenge
Friday morning. Cool and foggy conditions with rain
just waiting for, (or daring) us to start painting.
The rain held off until I started laying in some colour.
I got it about 2/3rds done and finished up in the studio.
It is a rather "gray day" painting for me but I enjoyed
doing something different. Thankfully the leaves
are turning, providing some colour contrast.
Oil on board 14 x 11.

Saanich Pumpkin Field

This was painted using a photo I took several
years ago. It is always quite a sight to come
across a field full of ripe pumpkins. The area
pictured here always has a few pumpkin fields.
I have to get out soon and refresh my image
supply and maybe do some plein air work...
Oil on canvas 8 x 6.
