Muir Creek, **SOLD**

Canadian west coast Impressionism, Sooke BC, plein air oil painting of Vancouver Island

There is a beautiful spot about a 45 minute drive
NW of Victoria where the mouth of Muir Creek meets
the Juan de Fuca strait. When the tide is right there is
a wonderful stretch of West Coast beach that goes
on and on, at one point you will come to clay cliffs
that are full of marine fossils.
River otters were feeding in the creek while I was
painting this piece.
Oil on wood panel 9 x 12.

Highrock Spring

Highrock on a warm and sunny spring afternoon
 is a beautiful thing.
The Camas lily's that have a moist
spot are in full bloom now, those in
the drier areas are already finished.
Much of the winter mosses are
drying out leaving carpets of gold and
orange that have been green
since early last fall.
The oaks are leafing out now.
An artist friend and I spent a couple of hours
painting there on Thursday afternoon.
It is so wonderful getting out again!

Oil on panel
9 x 12.

Your comments are always welcomed!

"On all of our camping and sketching trips
we learned to explore each region
for those particular areas where form and
character and spirit reached its summation.
We became increasingly conscious of the fact
that the spirit of the land
must be discovered through its own character
if there is to be any real life in its art."

March Sky-Oak Bay

I worked this painting up from a smaller plein
air piece I did back in March ;)).
I have been trying to paint cloudy day paintings this
year without the "dreary", something I
tend to struggle to accomplish.
Oil on linen 18 x 14.
Comments always welcomed!

"We worked from early morning until dark in sun,
grey weather or in rain. In the evening by lamp or candlelight
each showed the others his sketches.
This was a time for criticism, encouragement and
discussion, for our discoveries about painting, for our
thoughts about the character of the country and our
descriptions of effects in nature which differed in
each part of the country."

Windy Morning-Brothers Islands

Hello everyone, I have been out of commission for the
past three weeks with a back injury and my out-put
has gone ka-put! Still sore but I'm
pretty much back on-line.
I made it out this morning to a spot just down the
street from my studio and came back with this piece.
Oil on panel 9 x 12.
Your comments are always appreciated.
