'Come September'

This piece was started as a demo for a
local art group. Using a plein air painting
of the area from last spring along with
a photo taken while I painted their.
Of course a large dallop of imagination
it now being the end of September...

Today marked the second annual
Orange Shirt Day!!
(though scarfs, ribbons etc. are okay as well)

Late Summer Lilies

Another one from a recent sojourn in the
grasshopper days of early September.
The dragons were busy
with their legacy while I painted...

'Last Light-Cusheon Lake'

 'Dragons & Kingfishers'

There is an island
that lies in the Salish Sea
In early September it calls to me
The Kingfishers fly their halcyon displays
Red dragons are tap tap tapping
their new life away
The grasshopper afternoon's heat
goes with me as I slide
into the lakes liquid velvet dive
Once again
it is all clear to me

This was painted one evening very quickly
just as the sun was setting behind
those hills to the left.
It was pretty much dark while I was cleaning up.

'April Afternoon-Highrock'

As the title suggests this piece was painted
plein air on a lovely afternoon in April.
Another in my quest to paint 100
pieces of this wonderful little park.

'Changing Weather - Tranquille'

This is another piece painted last spring
on a trip into the BC interior.
There is much history to the Tranquille area.
It was my first time back here in more than 20 years.
As is apparent in the painting, the
sky was showing the coming of a major
weather system that would change this May's
summer like conditions overnight to
a significant rain in the valley and heavy snow on
the hills and mountains by morning.
As well as painting we were able to do some
serious birding, seeing many species not
found back on Vancouver Island.
