'Soul Sisters' *SOLD*

I've been somewhat missing-in-action in the
blogoshere as the opening for my
two person show with Linny D. Vine draws nigh
and last minute preparations seem to mount.
All the paintings were delivered to the
Art Gallery of Greater Victoria yesterday
and that felt real gooooood.
Six more sleeps to the reception  =:-/
I have been painting though, if somewhat
distractedly.
This painting features those wonderful west coast
trees the Arbutus. Though the mighty cedars
and firs are regaled as the trees of the
west coast it is the Arbutus that holds sway
with my soul. Feminine and sensual in
character they are sacred to many of
the first peoples here on the south coast.
When you breathe in the scent of their profuse blossoms,
see the bountiful bright red clusters of their
edible berries among the leathery evergreen leaves
or sit quietly on a hot still mid summer afternoon and
hear the thin layers of bark begin to audibly crack
and peel from the smooth trunks,
you begin to understand...

Oil on wood panel 18 x 24.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Jeffrey!... What a wonderfully inspiring and sensitive post and fine set of paintings to highlight your upcoming show with pal Linny!

It seems we share so many of the same feelings of awe and respect for the landscapes we paint in... and you are absolutely right my Friend. By being a part of this outdoor process... I feel I really do begin too understand it all... as you so aptly put it!

...and I feel deeply blessed and honoured to have this privilege of Life!

Good luck... and many sales at your show!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

Wonderful painting, the powerful warm light is still present yet more muted as if it is later on in the afternoon. Again the form of the trees are flowing and are full of life. You really do capture the big outdoors in your work Jeffrey. I wish I could see the exhibition and wish you all the best for success.

beautiful as always but I'm intrigued about the Arbutus. I thought they were firs.
We stay in a little cottage on the Cape and all of them are named after flowers accept the Arbutus, which is the one I always choose.
Have fun at the Show and don't get lost in "linnyland" :D

Thanks Mary...they are a magical tree (Arbutus menziesii)

I've been lost in Linnyland for so long anything else would be scary.

These sisters are wonderful! I think your paintings provide visuals for calming meditations. What a good thing it must be for you to be there painting these scenes.

Only a few more days until your opening! Yay! Don't forget to breathe.
