the best ones are not for adornment

'Camosun Wetlands'

While I stood painting this piece  Friday
morning, I was serenaded by a large group
 of feeding Trumpeter Swans...
talk about another day in paradise!

'Tonquin Light'

Though it can be said that each geographic
area has its own special light,
none more so than here on the coast.
Attempting to capture the light with
a rapidly advancing weather system bearing
down on your location is always challenging.
Often we are forced to "play"
a little with reality.
Using both a small plein air piece
and photo's taken while painting it I
"played" with this piece
within the confines of the studio
and reality.

'Coastal Guardian'

Once again another year has passed into
memory, some cherished, others, perhaps not so much.
We will carry on making our art,
striving always to create more and improve our work.
Though it may at times seem completely out of
our reach. Always the process
will challenge us and ask more of us.
Often I feel somewhat saddened when I look at
the results of my artistic accomplishments of
the year just passed. Wishing I had
painted more, sold more, learned more...
but the process rescues me and my
vision becomes more clear and resolute and
it strengthens my hand.
The year ahead will bring with it discoveries never
imagined, successes and failures.

Several years ago now a hardy
 coastal resident boarding up his
windows preparing for the arrival of a hurricane
painted a message on one of the coverings...

"BRING IT ON JUAN"

Wishing you all the best in this year ahead.
