'South Island Meadow'

This piece was worked up from a plein air
painting done last spring during the
the spring Camas bloom.
I have recently been out painting more
Camas. Sadly they are already passing the height
of this years blooming.

'A Morning In April'

This painting was developed from reference photos
taken while plein air painting in one our local
natural park areas here in Victoria.
This brief time in spring always
passes so quickly.

'Camas Tapestry'

Early morning shadows, bright sun, warm temperatures,
brilliant carpets of wild Camas Lily's and dozens of
swooping swallows hunting insects to feed their
broods made last Friday's paint out so very special.
For me the return of the swallows and the Camas Lily
bloom time is the highlight of spring here
on Southern Vancouver Island.
Now where did I put the time delay device...

'South Island Spring',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, oil painting of Uplands Park, Victoria BC

While I know it is a little out of season we artist have to
strike when the metals hot so to speak!
=:-/
This was developed using plein air paintings and reference
photos from my several forays into Uplands Park this
spring during the flowering season.
I was very fortunate to enjoy several paint outs among
the lush spring Camas and have a few paintings as well.
Stay tuned for more autumn scenes!

'Clouds and Camas'

This piece was painted almost two weeks ago now on
a sparkling morning in Uplands Park. The Camas are
competing with the growing grasses now and fading to seed
in the more sunny locations. I am very happy that I
was able to get out painting so many times this spring,
in good weather, while they were at their best.

'Uplands Camas' **SOLD**

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, oil painting of Uplands Park, Victoria, BC, Camas Lily)

Uplands Park in Oak Bay is at its finest right now as
I discovered this morning when I arrived for a paint out.
Beautiful drifts of our native Camas Lily among the
rocky outcrops in this natural Garry oak meadow are
really something to see. While I painted there this
morning it was lovely to sense the spirits of the first
peoples, whose footprints were here thousands of years
before first contact, harvesting the Camas bulbs
as a major staple of their diet.

'October Colour',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, fall colours, Uplands Park, Victoria, BC, plein air oil painting)

I painted this piece en plein air about a week ago and
managed to get most of it done before the rain started.
I have been enjoying painting the coloured trees against
the dark autumn skies. I think it adds a bit of drama.
However I did find it a bit of a challenge to get the colours
right in the very low light conditions.
