Winter Oak

Bright afternoon sunlight on a snowy oak meadow
is always a dazzling sight. The subtle shades
of colour seem so much more vivid. It
is sometimes difficult to keep ones
palette under control.
Oil on board 6 x 6.

Waterfront Property

Bit of a change of pace for me and one I really
enjoyed. I think I will start doing this
sort of thing more often.
Oil on board 8 x 10.

Winter Trail

The transformation that a blanket of snow
makes on the landscape is really quite
phenomenal. It is a joy to paint and
something I look forward to every year.
This years heavy snow is quite a treat
as we don't always get snow
here in Victoria.
Oil on canvas 24 x 20.

'Winter Solstice' **SOLD**

I'm still on the snow paintings. Hard not to when you
wake up in a Lawren Harris painting every morning.
We will likely have a white Christmas this year on
the south end of Vancouver Island for the
first time in many years. It really is very
beautiful here right now in Victoria.
A snowy winter wonderland.
Oil on board 6 x 6.
Your comments are always appreciated!

Winter Apples

Right now in Victoria we are experiencing some
pretty extreme winter weather for our area.
Apples that are still left on the tree provide a very
important food source for many species of birds during
these nasty weather events.
This piece was painted from a photo I took after a
heavy November snowfall in 2006.
Oil on canvas 16 x 16.

Spring Afternoon-Thetis Island

This piece was painted in the studio from a
photo I took while on a trip to Thetis Island
several years ago. We were there during
the spring minus tides depicted in this painting.
A time in which the mystery of the
shoreline is briefly revealed.

Oil on canvas 24 x 24.

High Rock Oak

I painted this piece last week on a crisp clear morning
up on Highrock Park. I was there with three
other artists who are plein air enthusiasts.
It is always amazing to see what everyone comes
up with after a couple hours of painting.

Oil on board 6 x 6.

the Round House

Like small isolated railways everywhere,
Vancouver Islands E & N has seen better days.
Reduced now to one dayliner service a day there
has been a movement to upgrade the line and
run commuter rail service. I wanted to get this
painting done and plan a few more as much of this
site is slated for redevelopment in the near future.
The weather held for a few hours today while I
completed this painting en plein air.

BTW there really wasn't any snow =;-))

Oil on board 6 x 6.

December Morning-Beacon Hill

On Friday a group of outsiders were greeted with a
wonderful show of colour on what would have been a fairly
bleak December morning. Bands of orange and pink low over
the Olympic Mountains attracted the interest of many in
our small band of hardy plein air painters.
Victoria's historic Beacon Hill Park provides
plein air enthusiasts with an endless variety
of painting opportunities year round.

Oil on board 11 x 14.
Your comments are always appreciated.

Changing Weather

A friend and I painted at Cattle Point yesterday,
gambling with the weather. Thankfully the rain
held off and the skies began to clear
just as we were finishing up.
Our native willows are one of the last trees to
lose their leaves and many are still showing
that lovely yellow orange.
Oil on board 8 x 10.

December Afternoon-Plumper Bay

A warm sunny afternoon in December and the time to
get out and paint...how great is that. The temperature
hit 13C which is about 60F...niiiice!
The rapidly moving clouds presented quite a
challenge and by the time an hour had gone by large
looming dark clouds had moved in and
it was time to skedaddle!
This is another view of part of Esquimalt Harbour.
Oil on board 6 x 8.

Clear Breaks

Clear breaks come in many forms, on this day they
were quite small and limited. Overcast and threatening
one minute and breaks of sun in the next. It was the
showers that made it tough! This is another one
from Highrock Park. (my 100 paintings park)
A friend and I painted here last Thurs.
Most of this piece was done out there
some fine tuning was done in here.
Oil on board 8 x 10.
