Right now in Victoria we are experiencing somepretty extreme winter weather for our area.
Apples that are still left on the tree provide a very
important food source for many species of birds during
these nasty weather events.
This piece was painted from a photo I took after a
heavy November snowfall in 2006.
Oil on canvas 16 x 16.

Good job of this painting Jeff.... A warm painting and yet one gets the impression of cold. Those apples really look frozen!

Excellent work, Jeff. I like how you leave your strokes alone after you place them. Each color is a fixed function.

I navigated over from Aty Fice -- was feeling sheepish about seemig pretentious. I also love a good mystery series, especially the ones that evoke worlds the way Hillerman does. I always long to for the southwest when I read him. Another favoriteis the Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael series. They're formulaic but she's very kind to her characters and I find the the Medieval-monastery-and-town setting charming.
Nothign lioke a good escape.
Not incidentally, I love that apple painting. It has an Japanese woodblock quality.

You would love it there. It's an artist's paradise. I also noticed that the red rocks remind me of NB & NS. Same colors and such. Just a wonderful place. We also visited Jerome which just happened to appear in Art Calendar's list of best places for artists to live. It's a very small town. 750 hardy souls. I loved it.

I always get to thinking (possibly a dangerous thing) when I view your paintings. There was a tree with bright green apples and no leaves around the corner from us.I don't think I would have believed the neon green of it unless I had seen it. We built a gallery over my buddy's shop in Courtenay (Affordable Framing). Its a big room with lots of display space. Ongoing show but poor weather has limited attendance.
Your blog looks good, always a treat to visit, but I have not been a good blogger buddy, will try to be better in the new year.
Funny how the apples appear so extrodinary when you see them like that.
And I thought I had to work hard to get into a gallery!

Really like these apples and agree with the woodblock comment...that is the first thing that appealed to me too. It's funny how the grass is always greener...I want to get back up to Victoria/Salt Spring Islands area...just loved it. I recently moved from Flagstaff AZ...homesick. You have to plan a trip to the southwest...SO many places to paint and wide open space to dream.
