'Burgoyne Hayfield'

I spent three days last week on Saltspring Island.
The plan was for lots of painting and some downtime...
due to the crappy weather we had lots of one and
only a bit of the other. This painting was done
one afternoon when the weather cooperated nicely.
It is a beautiful spot and the whole time the
the sky was busy with three types of swallows
swooping through the air gorging on insects.
Those of you that are in my generation will
remember when hearing frogs near almost any body of
fresh water was pretty much common place.
Sadly it is all to often now more common not to hear
or see them. One of the most awesome things about
where we stay when on Saltspring are the nightly
serenades of the tree frogs that live along the
lake shore there! When conditions are right they
are still singing during the day as well.
Oil on wood panel 6 x 8.
Your thoughts and comments are always hoped for!

Waters Edge Willow

Spent a wonderful few days on Saltspring Island
a couple of weeks ago. This native willow stands
at the waters edge beside a little beach on
the lake we stay at. The lake swimming weather was
the best we have ever had here at the end of May.
The nightly serenade of tree frogs and star filled
night skies and excellent fishing made for a
very relaxing time. This piece was painted
plein air one hot afternoon.
Oil on wood panel.
12 x 9.
Your comments are always appreciated!

Yellow Iris (SOLD)

The lake where we stay on Saltspring has
a marshy shoreline that is wonderful for attracting
birds, many of whom nest among the
grasses and rushes. It also provides
habitat for tree frogs to lay their eggs.
In spring the chorus of hopeful tree frogs
fills the night time air around the lake
and is a wonderfully soothing sound
to fall asleep with.
Although they are an invasive plant,
the Yellow Iris makes a stunning
sight in the lakes marshy verges and
a challenging subject for plein air painting.
Oil on canvas 8 x 6.
Comments are always welcomed.
