'Winter Moss-Highrock' *SOLD*

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, Highrock Park, Esquimalt BC, plein air oil painting)

I have not be able to get out for a paint for some time
but managed to make it up to Highrock last Sunday
with my painting pal Linny D. Vine. I stopped at a spot
I often go by and wonder about painting but never have.
It was warm in the sun and the sheltered location for
most of our paint out but it didn't take us long to
return to the vehicle when the time was up.
Oil on wood panel 6 x 8.

'September Gold',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, Victoria BC, light of September)

More September light as I continue to develop this
series. This was painted using a previous smaller piece
'September Glow' as a reference. I'm not sure where this
series will end or end up.
For now I will just let it happen.
Oil on canvas 30 x 36.

'September Shadows',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, southern Vancouver Island, September light)

More of that wonderful September light with this piece.
It seems so long ago that we enjoyed that special
light that comes here on the South Island in the
warmth of early fall. I'm enjoying painting this series so
much I plan to try some large ones next.
Oil on canvas 16 x 20.

late season colour in the upland areas of the park.

'Summer Trails', *SOLD*

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, dragonflies, soul syrup, trail shadows)

Hot summer sun casting shadows on the trail
ahead is but a dream right now but one of
those 'happy places' one can return to when
we close our eyes and remember the scent of
soul syrup and the flight of dragonflies.

'Catrina',

I painted this portrait as gift for a very dear
friend on the occasion of her 90th birthday.
Born on a farm in the Canadian prairies she has
lived a very full and interesting life that she
has chronicled in a wonderful book.
A veteran of WW II she continues to lead
a very active and independent life.
Most of her life she went by the name of Kay.
Being of Ukrainian heritage in those days
many of her siblings and friends had their
names arbitrarily changed by a grade
school teacher on their first day at school
because they where considered too unusual
and hard to pronounce! When she told us
this story several years ago we have always
called her by her birth name 'Catrina' which
always brings a smile to her face.
Oil on canvas
10 x 8.
Your thoughts and comments are
always encouraged!

'December Afternoon',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, Swan Lake, cottonwoods)

This painting is a larger version of one I did a couple
of weeks ago. I used the same reference photo's
I took several years ago at the
Swan Lake Nature Preserve just outside Victoria.
A natural peat bog, it is a very important avian
sanctuary and a lovely place to walk the trail that
circles the lake and marsh areas.
Oil canvas
24 x 30.
