One afternoon a couple of weeks ago I painted atop
Anderson Hill overlooking historic Trial Island and
across the strait Juan de Fuca to Washington's
Olympic Mountains. One of those special warm May
afternoons when the winds of the strait were calm and
the late day sun makes those wonderful colours.
The rain shadow effect of the Olympic Peninsula is quite
evident in this scene as the clouds coming in off the open
Pacific pile up against the mountains and away
from us over here in Victoria.
Oil on wood panel 11 x 14.

Oh, I do love those clouds and mountains. Just beautiful. The way you've painted the shadows in the mountains is particularly masterful.
What a perfect day it must have been.
What a view. The relative size of the building really emphasizes the majesty of the mountains
Hi again Jeffrey!... "I" love the serene quiet mood of this piece.... very skillful and soothing use of the horizontal planes in your composition... and your colour is as always... bright and cheerful! Great work!
Good Painting!
Warm regards,
Bruce
Thanks Melinda...yes a crystal day!

Thanks Deborah...that building always seems so incongruously tiny when viewed from a distance.
