'Above Skutz Falls'

As the title suggests this painting was painted just above
Skutz Falls on the Cowichan River during a magical
afternoon with bright sunlight highlighting the early fall
colour. The Cowichan river is one of the most important
rivers on Vancouver Island for spawning salmon and
very depleted steelhead. As well resident populations of
rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout. It has for millennia,
and continues to be, a central part of the lives and culture
of some of the islands first peoples. To say it
is a beautiful river is very much an understatement.
It is wonderful feeling to be able to spend time
painting it and to sense the spirits that still
occupy this vital watershed.
Oil on wood panel 11 x 14.

Thanks Prabha...I think you would be amazed to walk through the trees to stand at the edge of the river and take it all in!

Hi again Jeffrey!... Two wonderful images of colour and light!Love the contrast between the two subjects as well- quiet versus active brushwork!

Enjoyed the historical commentary as well. It's not just about painting ...is it Jeffrey?

Good painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

Thanks Bruce and your right there is so much more to get from the things we paint. I attempt to absorbe as much of the feel and history as I can!

Jeffrey, I've never seen the river your referring to but I think that your painting must respresent it well- very nice work!

I just found your blog and invite you to visit mine as well. -Joe
