Spring always brings signs of renewal that we have yearned
for during the darker months of the year.
The annual herring run up the Gorge is one of those.
Not far from the scene in this painting, anglers will be doing
their best to fill their buckets with
the shiny silver bait fish that will make their annual
spawning run here. The fisherman compete with gulls,
cormorants, seals and others.
Sadly, the numbers of herring are somewhat diminished now.
Herring are among the primary foundations of our
entire marine ecosystem.
Oil on canvas 8 x 10.

Love the"feel" of these...velvety. I have been herring fishing with the first nation warriors, shaking. I knew the stocks were going to suffer.
The old way of harvesting herring roe, the way some first nations still do it, is the way to go.
Thanks for your comment Ron!

Beautiful light and colour Jeffrey, as usual. Nicely drawn animals, too.
