'Spring Dance',

(Canadian west coast Impressionism, Garry oak meadows, Garry Oak Ecosystems Recovery Team, spring

I painted this piece on what turned out to be a very cool
late afternoon a couple of weeks ago. The deal was to get
it done quickly so we allowed ourselves 45 minutes or less.
My main goal was to try and capture the light and colour
patterns that surrounded us at that time and not worry
to much about fine details. I'm pleased with the
results overall, course my desire for more fine details
nags at me a little. Once again the character of these
Garry oaks lead me to title the piece this way.
The Garry oak meadow that I painted in has the first
of the early wildflowers and naturalized invaders in bloom
already which is a bit early this year.
The incredible flush of the native Camas Lily
will not be to far off.
Oil on board 6 x 6.
Comments always welcomed!

I love the light and color patterns...that's totally what this piece is all about as I look at it. Isn't it great to limit yourself to such a short time? Makes us not fuss...just get the essentials!

The trees really do look like they're dancing! the whole painting has a lovely spring-y freshness to it. And I know what you mean about struggling to keep out the details!

Love the freestyle curves and neo-impressionist strokes. It's a lively combination, with brilliant color and saturation. Inspiring.

I like the freshness of this piece, really like the brush strokes. You've made me totally homesick for Victoria.

Thanks Paula...this one seems to have struck a cord with quite a few fellow artists...I will have to keep this in mind. When were you in Victoria...I visited the Columbia Valley many years ago and will never forget it and I am planning a trip there again sometime in the very near future!
