'Burgoyne Hayfield'

I spent three days last week on Saltspring Island.
The plan was for lots of painting and some downtime...
due to the crappy weather we had lots of one and
only a bit of the other. This painting was done
one afternoon when the weather cooperated nicely.
It is a beautiful spot and the whole time the
the sky was busy with three types of swallows
swooping through the air gorging on insects.
Those of you that are in my generation will
remember when hearing frogs near almost any body of
fresh water was pretty much common place.
Sadly it is all to often now more common not to hear
or see them. One of the most awesome things about
where we stay when on Saltspring are the nightly
serenades of the tree frogs that live along the
lake shore there! When conditions are right they
are still singing during the day as well.
Oil on wood panel 6 x 8.
Your thoughts and comments are always hoped for!

Hi again Jeffrey!... A lovely well balanced composition... that fairly swoops the eye across the field... as "You" intended!

Your "bit" really was worth it all... and as "I" just mentioned in my last post... plein air painting is more than just
"making" a single panel or canvas... it's about immersing the Souls and one's senses... in The Source. And "You" have certainly done that for sure.... swallows... trees... Does this make sense?

Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce

I was immediately drawn into this one when I saw it in the thumbnail...I love this composition.
Great what Bruce said about plein air...so true! I guess even if we're not literally laying paint on canvas, we can still be thinking and immersing ourselves.

Thanks Bruce...I agree very much that soul has to be involved for a painting to have staying power. Hayfields are very much a part of my soul and I love to paint them. But as you know painting plein air can be hit and miss at times. But paint what you love...

Thanks so much Karen...because of the small size I was able to control myself and kept it simple.

Beautiful painting! I really enjoy all the directional brushstrokes and contrasts.

Oh, to hear frogs at night as one is falling to sleep. Yes, I remember that.

Glad you had the time to spend there even if the weather only cooperated a little.

I don't visit your blog nearly enough, but I am so amply rewarded when I do!! Love the patterns in this. Seems like it might be too busy -- but it's so NOT, it's just right. Wonderful!!
