Though we were bothered by smokey skies 

here on the south Island for a 
short while this past summer,

we were often rewarded with some of

the most eerie but gorgeous sunsets.

This was painted using a photo

reference from an artist friend

Lying in the sun dappled shade

Ocean Spray Foray

This years Ocean Spray (Holodiscus discolor) display

has been one of the loveliest in recent memory,

it is a significant plant species for insect pollinators

and a preferred nesting site for Bushtits

here on the south Island...

Night Passage

A moments rest at the edge of the woods
The veil of darkness has settled over the land
Stardust drifts through the cooling air
Mingled with the scent of wild rose and fresh cut hay
There are sounds and movement in the pasture
As clouds lit by the rising moon sail past
The colour and light of night grow stronger
There are others about
Just beyond the reach of my senses
That must wonder at my presence
For I am a foreign traveler here
